Overskill uses the word role
in two different places, and they mean different things.
Workspace roles: who can build with you
Workspace roles decide what someone can do inside Overskill, in your workspace. There are two:
- Member — can open and work on the workspace's apps. If an admin turns on team sharing on the Team members page, a Member can be limited to only the apps or projects shared with them.
- Admin — everything a Member can do, plus inviting people, changing roles, and removing people from the workspace.
You pick the role when you invite someone, and an admin can change it later from the Team members page (account menu → Team members). See Inviting teammates.
App-user roles: who can do what in your app
App-user roles control what people can do inside the app you built.
For example, your app might have:
- Admins who can manage records
- Members who can create their own items
- Customers who can only view or purchase
- Moderators who can review submissions
These roles affect the live app experience. They do not give someone access to the Overskill editor.
Quick difference
- Workspace role: controls what someone can do in Overskill itself.
- App-user role: controls what someone can do in the app you built.
- Share link: lets someone view or use the app, depending on visibility settings.
- Editor link: only works for someone who's already in your workspace.
